Republican Nader

Nader says that if the Greens reject him, he might choose to run as an independent, or possibly even as a Republican, which would pit him against George W. Bush in the primary.

"Wouldn't that be interesting? A Republican run?" he muses.

When asked why a campaigner so closely identified with progressive causes would contemplate running for the White House as a candidate from a party on the other end of the political spectrum, Nader answers without missing a beat.

"To give the American people a choice as to the political institutions they desire and the clean elections they deserve," he said. "Isn't that what politics should be all about?"

Uhm... I'm not even sure what to say about this. I think I like it. I wonder how the mechanics of this would work. Are there enough open primaries in Red states that this could cause problems for Bush requiring him to waste some time and money on dealing with Nader?

hmm. that's an interesting quandary. i voted for Nader once, and it got me nowhere. why should i vote for him again? ESPECIALLY if he's gonna be a "Republican" this time around? i still wonder if he was a tool of the GOP in 2000 to take votes from Gore.

Well, there is zero chance of him beating Bush in the Republican primary. Come to think of it, there's probably zero chance of Bush worrying about him enough to waste time on him.

Yes, I agree with Wozz. I'm not going to give him much thought.

IMHO: I gave him my vote last time because I thought he was working to build something different, something that had a chance to grow into something real, but he just disappeared after the election.

He's smart and he has a lot of good ideas, but where the hell has he been over the last 2-1/2 years? He's like a bird bath with mosquito larvae in it: used to be pretty, but hasn't had much attention recently and is now, ... well.. stagnant.

Well, my only interest in this is in his use as a spoiler against Bush in the primaries. I certainly woulnd't expect him to actually win a Republican primary against Bush, and even if he did I woulnd't vote for him. I just like the idea of his doing penance for 2000 by mucking up Bush's previously clean and easy primary season.
