Al Gore's Speech

The Scrum has a good post on Al Gore's speech. I have no real feelings on whether he should enter the Presidential race, but he did manage to put together a more concise critique of the current Administration than any of the current candidates. Someone needs to be making these points. The Scrum boils the speech down to its most important passage:

...there is a big difference between [occasional rhetorical excesses and leaps of faith] and a systematic effort to manipulate facts in service to a totalistic ideology that's felt to be more important than the mandates of basic honesty.

And, unfortunately, I think it is no longer possible to avoid the conclusion that what our country is now dealing with in the Bush presidency is the latter. That's really the nub of the problem, in my view, and the common source for most of the false impressions that have been frustrating the normal and healthy workings of our democracy....

The Bush administration routinely shows disrespect for that whole basic process. And I think it's partly because they seem to feel as if they already know the truth and are not very curious to learn about any facts that might contradict what they believe they already know.

I don't like Gore. He always looks plastic to me. I think w0zz should run. At least I could vote for someone I know would at least think about the issues before takeing action.

If nominated I will not run, if elected I will not serve.

I thought you liked a challenge

he only likes a challenge when it involves booze or weed.

Grabes once challenged Christian Lindbergh to play Flight of the Bumblebee backwards on his bone with the spit valve open. Grabes won.

there’s several movements sprouting about to Draft All Gore for the Dem candidacy and they’re incredibly organized.....

Newspaper Article: "Draft Gore’ efforts step up across New Hampshire"

PORTSMOUTH - The field of potential Democratic nominees could increase by one shortly.

The Draft Gore 2004 Committee officially launched its activities in New Hampshire Thursday, by mailing letters to 147 town party chairmen across the state and announcing a write-in campaign for the former vice president."

and then there’s the petition......

as well continued speculation on whether he’ll run....

"Despite his blanket denials, Al Gore may yet challenge George Bush. The former concluded his speech by encapsulating the Clinton-Gore administration’s successes -- exactly, come to think of it, what so many urged him to do back in 2000. Once again, you don’t need to be a history junkie to read between those lines."

So what's so different about Gore this time around?

I would expect the same limp dicked, take no stance, flip flop on the issues Gore, just like all the other democrats. They either tell you what you want to hear and act the exact opposite, or they have no true stance in the first place.

*yawn*

Well, he has said he's still not running so he doesn't really need a stance on the issues. But reading this speech doesn't show a take no stance flip flop on the issues. He's attacking Bush directly. Now whether or not he would have a better solution for the Iraq problem is unknown and probably never to be known unless he does decide to jump in the race. I doubt he will though.

Plus it's not like it takes a lot of thought to attack dubya, we do it all the time here :P
