Bruce Schneier: Blaster and the Blackout

| | Comments (8) | TrackBacks (0)

In the latest Crypto-Gram, Bruce finds signs of the Blaster worm in the official interim report on the August 14th blackout.

Let's be fair. I don't know that Blaster caused the blackout. The report doesn't say that Blaster caused the blackout. Conventional wisdom is that Blaster did not cause the blackout. But it seems more and more likely that Blaster was one of the many causes of the blackout.

BTW, if you're in infosec and not subscribed to Crypto-Gram you are a silly goose.

I'm sorry, Grabes, but this quote from The General is a press-stopper:

"Well, if I were president right now, I would be doing things that George Bush can’t do right now, because he’s already compromised those international bridges. I would go to Europe and I would build a new Atlantic charter. I would say to the Europeans, you know, we’ve had our differences over the years, but we need you. The real foundation for peace and stability in the world is the transatlantic alliance. And I would say to the Europeans, I pledge to you as the American president that we’ll consult with you first. You get the right of first refusal on the security concerns that we have. We’ll bring you in."

Nooooooo!

He's said several times that if the US has to act unilaterally against a *REAL* threat, he would do so. What he refers to here is the use of force as a last resort against a *REAL* threat.

Incidentally, lets keep comments on subject

Grrr, I'm a snippy guy from Colorado. Grrr, I ate snippy casserole for the holidays.

"You get the right of first refusal on the security concerns that we have. We’ll bring you in."

Grabes, your defense of The General is not cognizable! The General wants to give Jacques Chiraq the "right of first refusal on the security concerns that we have." What else can that mean but a surrender of America's sovereignty over itself!!!???

He's made it plainly clear in many other comments that that is not the case.

Let's continue to keep these comments on subject, please. The subject: The General's comment of surrender!

Grabes, you should submit your responses here to the PERL obfuscation contest! Larry Wall will personally award you the prize!!!
